After three girls, she had her first boy.
And so the grandfather gave her those two bracelets.
And it goes back to 1890 is when she-- he had this first boy.
APPRAISER: Who do we see in this photograph?
GUEST: This is my husband's grandmother and grandfather.
So in the picture, my husband's grandmother is wearing the one bracelet on her arm.
The other one is probably behind his back, 'cause they wore two, one on each arm at the time.
I wear one now at a time.
GUEST: Just one.
Just... you know.
But, uh, I love them.
APPRAISER: They are Victorian, they're big, they're beautiful.
This is black enamel that you have here.
GUEST: Yeah, that's nice, isn't it?
APPRAISER: It's beautiful.
And what I love, it's this kind of garter style, almost that belt style.
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: And it makes them a bit modern.
Like, you could still wear these today, right?
GUEST: Right, right.
Yes, I love 'em.
APPRAISER: Yeah, they're, they're very, very chic.
And the fact that you have two, not one is... GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: ...al-also makes them a little bit more rare and even more desirable.
GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: So I did weigh them and you have 50 grams of gold.
They're 14 karat yellow gold.
No hallmarks, though.
But they are 14 karat gold.
Also, this is-- I love this part of it, is that when you open them up, what's inside?
GUEST: That's her name, that's his grandmother's name, Madelena Bollato.
APPRAISER: Engraved inside.
If you had to walk into a retail store to purchase those today... GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: ...it would be $10,000 for the pair.
GUEST: (soft chuckle) Whoo!
I didn't realize that.
Thank you.
