- A community run is a cultural celebration where people can also honor loved ones during this very special event.
Daniela Imbrett Jimenez and Felix Alcantara with Wasatch Trails Collective join us now to share how their Dia de los Muertos 5K will create connections on and off the trail.
Thank you so much for being here.
- Thank you.
- Thank you.
- So, Felix, tell me a little bit about the Wasatch Trails Collective, about this group.
- Yeah, so the Wasatch Trails Collective is a community group.
It first started as a trail-running group, especially, like, for people of color.
We're trying to create a space for the community because it could be very challenging to either, like, get, like, some sort of money for shoes or, like, all this gear.
So we started as a trail-running group, but then we are expanding into other sports like cycling, hiking, and also trying to learn about different cultures 'cause we come from different backgrounds.
- Yeah, absolutely.
And, Daniela, you guys are putting on a Dia de los Muertos 5K.
Why is that something that was important to do this year?
- Well, we've been doing this, this is our third year now, and the reason we decided to do a 5K and Dia de los Muertos is first to celebrate, you know, the heritage, Mexican heritage, first of all.
But second of all, we wanted to create an event that it was with a purpose.
And so every year, we decided to donate all of the funds to an organization that does something for the community, especially for minority communities.
And this year, we're actually helping Salt Lake City Community Bail Fund, which is an organization that supports immigrants in their immigration process, whether by paying bonds or supporting them at courts.
And so all of our funds will be directed to them.
And, yeah, we do it just with the intention of helping the community and making sure that everyone is welcome and feeling that they have a place where they belong.
- All right.
And I love that.
So whether you run or walk, you're welcome to come and participate.
Thank you so much for sharing this information.
